Qigong (“chee-gong”) is a five-thousand year-old Chinese method that combines slow graceful movements with mental concentration and breathing to increase and balance a person’s vital energy for good health. Qigong is said to open the flow of chi (lifeforce) energy in the body meridians from Chinese medicine to enhance our ability to feel the Life Force underlying the physical world and our connection to it. QiGong with consistent practice improves mental and physical health by improving posture, movement, breathing techniques, flexibility and focused intent.
The three foundations of Qigong practice are the combination of posture and movement, breath, and mindfulness and meditation.
Slow gentle qigong movements can be performed by people who have limited movement or balance improving overall health and wellbeing – over time it can improve muscle and joint function, improve function of vital organs and connective tissue, promote positive circulation, boost lymphatic function.
